Happiness is a state of mind and not a fleeting emotion…

Points to Ponder: November 26, 2017

Today we shall understand that in Satyug, my mind and body are in harmony. Let us understand the mind. Thoughts, emotions, attitudes and memories are the TEAM of the mind. In satyug, this team is positive. A positive TEAM is the source of constant flow of happy hormones in the body. This is why happiness in satyug is not a fleeting emotion but a permanent state of mind. In kaliyug, my TEAM is negative. It is therefore, that we are not in our natural state of happiness. Happiness has become a mirage today. Every time, we seem to be just approaching it, it evades us. Today, we are trying to catch hold of transient bouts of happiness experienced under the influence of lust, food, acquisitions, drugs. However, since their source is impermanent, the feeling of happiness is also so. We are desperately increasing our engagement in sensual pleasure to prolong the state of happiness but they result in nothing but addiction.

Addiction is defined as a brain disorder characterized by compulsive engagement in rewarding stimuli, despite adverse consequences. It is time that we understand that our excessive engagement in all pleasure giving activities is actually making us a slave of these stimuli. We continue engaging in them in the hope of replicating the experience of happiness derived out of the activity. However, in the process, we are giving away our power to create happiness through positive thought.

Let me sit in awareness. I am the master of my mind. My mind is under my sway. I am the pure soul. My mind belongs to me. I create a thought that I am a happy soul. Happiness is my birthright. I am separate from the body and in a state of happiness. I concentrate my intellect on the rays of happiness emerging from my core and my mind feels it. I am happy.
