Today we shall understand karmic bondage. The original nature of we, the souls is purity, peace, love, bliss and power. Any karma done against our own nature puts us into karmic bondage. When we are in ego or body consciousness, we perform karma against our own basic nature. Ego is false identification with our acquired physical, relationships based, social, professional, religious, national, ethnic and other identities. When I, the soul is in the consciousness of these other identities, a feeling of us and them, of mine and theirs, of low and high or superiority and inferiority sets in. It is then that emotions of comparison, criticism, ego, anger start to play out. As a result, the karma (thoughts, words and action) that we do is not in accordance with our true identity of being a peaceful, pure, loveful, blissful and powerful soul. And because of such karma, the soul incurs karmic debt or karmic bondage.
Karmic bondage is the result of the spiritual bankruptcy of the soul. The soul is robbed by time of its innate capacity for peaceful, loveful, pure, blissful and powerful thoughts, words and conduct. Such karmic bondage manifests in the occurrence of unfavourable situations, disharmonious relationships and ill health. In such states, a spiritually bankrupt soul is again tempted into performing further negative karma, thus only intensifying the bondage further. This is very similar to the situation where someone ends up taking a second loan to pay back the first one and gets caught up in the loan trap. This has been our story since many births and we are all in dire karmic bondage at the moment. The only way out is to earn spiritual wealth and to face the consequences of previous negative karma with spiritual powers of tolerance and accommodation and thus pay back our spiritual debt. We need to sufficiently accumulate the spiritual wealth of love, peace, bliss, purity and power and deal with unfavouable situations by using these virtues and powers. We will understand the formula for becoming spiritually wealthy tomorrow.
